Life Choices

Life Choices Demand Our Attention

Every day of our lives there are choices to be made. Some are insignificant, some important and others are life-changing. We need to exercise good judgment, to ensure that we are happy about the results of our choices, because every choice we make has an effect in our lives and possibly in the lives of others.

As parents and grandparents we need to have significant input into the lives of our children and grandchildren, so they will have the capacity to make wise and deliberate choices in their lives, setting them up for success and happiness. Yes, bad things do happen in life that we have no control over, but very often we have the ability to make a choice and by so doing we can have a fairly predictable outcome.

So often we hear teenagers demanding to be treated as adults, yet the choices they make can be childish. We need to teach them that with the privilege of making their own decisions and choices, comes the responsibility to live with the consequences. It’s important for them to understand that their choices can have far-reaching consequences.

INSIGNIFICANT CHOICES CAN BECOME SIGNIFICANT

Examples of this could be:

  • The choice to smoke one cigarette may cause you to cough and splutter, but the choice to continue smoking throughout your life may result in lung cancer or other life-threatening diseases.
  • The choice to eat starchy, sugary foods for a week probably will not do much harm, but eating quantities of those kinds of foods on a regular, ongoing basis, will cause health problems down the track.
  • The choice to sunbake all day in the heat of summer may cause painful sunburn, but doing this too often may very well result in skin cancer years later.

IMPORTANT CHOICES WE MAKE DETERMINE OUR QUALITY OF LIFE

There are many important choices we make in life which may increase or decrease our contentment and enjoyment of life, such as:

  • The choices we make regarding our possessions, eg. car, house, boat, pets, tools and householdfurnishings
  • Concerning our education, career choice, number of hours worked, what we do with our leisure time
  • Concerning our family, what time we spend together, where we go on holidays, which schools the children attend

These are all important choices we make that can affect our lives in various ways. We need maturity, commonsense (which isn’t all that common), and real wisdom in making the important decisions of life, because some of those things will profoundly affect the quality of our lives.

THEN THERE ARE LIFE-CHANGING CHOICES

The kind of choices we would put in this category are things like:

  • Choosing your life partner
  • Choosing a business partner
  • Deciding to start a family
  • Deciding to relocate to another country and culture
  • Deciding to leave a regular job, and work from home on the internet

People who understand what life is about are more likely to make well-reasoned choices and decisions.  However, unless we talk about these things with our children, they may not realise the importance of making wise choices.  It’s amazing how many people just drift along in life and ‘let life happen to them’, instead of taking charge of their lives in a proactive manner, and shaping their own destiny.

Fortunately, as Christians, we have the Word of God and the Holy Spirit guiding us and giving us wisdom for our lives. If we take advantage of the wisdom and help we are offered, we can look forward to lives of inner peace and fulfillment. As we continue to pray for our children and trust in the Lord, we can look forward to our children and grandchildren being healthy, happy and productive members of society.

Have a wonderful time as you prepare for Christmas celebrations. May it be a time of peace, joy and reconciliation in your families.

Kerrie Price

I am a grandmother and a recently retired pastor. On my retirement I decided I needed a new interest in life and wanted to supplement my income. I have chosen to use my skills as a Christian Life Coach, and to learn new skills in the field of Internet Marketing, and though I haven't been on the journey very long, it has been a most interesting one. There is a great deal to learn and many wonderful people to meet via the Internet. I am enjoying this new stage of my life, and hope to help others who want to improve their circumstances and make a change for the better.

    Hello Kerrie,

So happy to have found your site. i am also a member of the partner to Success Program and this is the first site of its kind that I have seen. Good topic and so needed these days.

Great to hear that there are some Christians out there that are willing to step up and make a stand for Christ. Way to go.

Thank you for your encouragement Steve. I agree that Christians need to stand up and speak up for what they believe and for the cause of Christ.
I was so encouraged to find Sean Mize and Omar Martin who are both highly successful Internet Marketers and also Christians who are not afraid
to say so. I hope you will sign in to the Optin box, so I can keep in touch.

    Hi Kerrie,

A great piece. I do believe that people have really forgotten to thank the Lord in the race to accumulating as much of the material world as they can. I have an online marketing business that I have recently began to fully dedicate myself to and I know it is a life-changing choice. But I am hopeful and believe the Lord shall guide me.

Thank you for sharing this article. It was insightful.

Thank you for your comment James. I wish you every success in your new endeavour.
As Christians, I believe we can succeed in any worthwhile enterprise with God’s help.
We just need to keep a watch on our motives, and not get so caught up with earthly
things, that we lose out on spending time in God’s Word and in His Presence.
