The Call to Prayer

“…if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land”.   – 2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV

The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”                                                                                                                                                                     – James 5:16 NLT

(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds;) Casting down arguments, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”    -2 Corinthians 10:4,5 KJ2

For many years now, I have heard little mention of the army of the Lord to which we Christians belong. In the news we are hearing mention of the “War against God” and the “War against Christians”. We know that we are at war with the world, the flesh, and the devil, yet I see no evidence of a strategic plan of attack. In fact, the use of prayer as a weapon of war against the devil and his evil forces has been greatly undervalued and largely ignored.

As children of God, our dealings in prayer are with our heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus. Nevertheless, He has given us ‘weapons of warfare’ and instruction to ‘stand against the enemy’ using the shield of Faith and the Sword of the Spirit. ‘Taking a stand against the enemy’ is being prepared to combat any evil attack. As far as I can ascertain, God does not ask us to directly engage in  battle, but rather to build up and strengthen the bulwarks (walls or fortification built to keep out attackers) and to be ready to defend our position. The heavenly hosts are actually the ones who actively engage in the battle.

Right now, in the face of great evil in our world, there is an urgent need for Christians to be actively involved in this aspect of prayer. The enemy is on the warpath and we can no longer carry on our lives as if the danger does not exist. At the same time God continually encourages us not to fear, because He is with us.

We understand from the scriptures that in these end times evil will abound and there are certain specific events that must inevitably be unfolded before the coming of the Lord. However, this does not give us the right to just sit back and let it all happen. There are many evils that do not have to happen, if Christians will simply do as God has asked us to do: that is, to humble ourselves and pray and seek His Face and turn from our wicked ways.

The end time call to prayer is urgent and unmistakeable. Will you respond to it?
