Trust and Obey

We used to sing an old hymn:  ‘Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey’.  It’s a great principle to live by..  If you just do those two things, you will never go astray, you will never backslide, you will never face any challenge too hard or too big to overcome, if you will only trust God and obey His Word.  In fact I would suggest that you write it in the front of your Bible and remind yourself often.

There may be times of great crisis and trouble in our lives when we can feel shaken to the very core of our being, but we pull ourselves together and declare our Trust in the One who gave everything for us.  We resist the evil one and all his inducements to indulge in discouragement and self pity.  We put on our armour and stand against the attacks of the enemy – and when we have done all that we can, then we stand firm, trusting in our God Who will never leave us or forsake us, who is faithful to the end and absolutely trustworthy – Who will surely see us through these present trials and will bring us out into the light of His glorious Victory – IF we continue to trust in Him and never, never give up.

‘For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us an exceeding and eternal weight of glory’.  This is saying that the more trials we go through as a Christian, (if we go through with a right attitude) the more glory we will experience in the end. The meaning here is that the weight of all earthly afflictions is light, while the glory to come is a substance, weighty, and lasting beyond description.

If we trust God – we can go all the way with Him and He will bring us safely Home to heaven.

What is the challenge you are facing today?  Is it a sudden and unexpected problem that shocked you and caused you grief?  Is it a long-standing problem?  Have you begun to doubt that things will ever change?

You can trust in God.  He absolutely loves you.  He will comfort you.  He will make a way where there is no way.  He opens paths through the wilderness.  He causes springs to break forth in the desert.  You will be surprised and amazed at what God will do if only you will trust Him.  Fix your eyes on Him – not on the problem.  It’s hard for us to do at first, because we’re used to dealing with the problems ourselves.  But it becomes easier with practice.

When you find yourself in the heat of the battle, lift your hands to the heavens and declare the faithfulness of God.
