LIFE IS LIKE A THEME PARK
Life often seems to me like a great adventure in a Theme Park. There are all kinds of rides we can go on, as well as games of skill, games of chance, resting spots, eateries, wonderful sights to see, people to meet and experiences to share. You can get a map to find your way around, or you can just wander along and take things as they come. You can go alone, or with a large group of people.
Carousel
The Carousel is a popular ride for the younger ones in the family. Not much required but to hang on and go with the flow. This is when life continues on from day to day without much change or drama. The music is playing, the lights are on, and life is pretty sweet.
Bumpa Cars
This is the ride you go on when there are difficult people in your life. It seems as though you're always bumping into one another, causing aggravation, upsets, hurt feelings and words you later wish you hadn't said.
Some people like to live this way, but the majority find it irritating or distressing, depending on their temperament.
Flying Planes
This is the ride you take when you're flying high. You just won that big contract, graduated with honors, found the love of your life, or went on a cruise. It's exhilarating and fun, and you wish life could always be so good.
Ticket Office
The Ticket Office reminds us that in a lot of cases we choose the rides we go on - and we pay for them - one way or another.
If we make good choices in life, we can enjoy the ride. However, if we make bad choices, we suffer the consequences. The ticket may be cheap, but the ride may not meet your expectations.
The Roller Coaster
Now the Roller Coaster is great fun on the way up, but can be very scary on the way down, especially if you've never been on one before. In life, it's good to have an alternative plan, if the one you're riding doesn't work out.
No matter how good our planning is, life has a way of throwing us a curve ball, that can cause the bottom to drop out of our world.
Food
I nearly forgot! Of course we need regular input of food and drink to keep us going. Here again, we make choices all through life, about the way we eat, and generally speaking it shows, one way or the other!
Nevertheless, it's part of the fun, and if you have sufficient money and someone in your life who cooks well, then you can enjoy this part of the journey time and time again.
So What's the Point?
I think it's largely up to us, to make the choices. Yes, lots of things happen in life unexpectedly and we need commonsense and good judgment to make the best of those times. It's easy at times like that to grumble and complain, pass the blame to someone else, or fall into a heap of self-pity. Sometimes people get angry at life and take it out on those around them, but even if we view life as a series of games, we still need to play like mature adults - not children.
Life experiences cost money too, so we need to have a plan in place to make money that will provide for family, food and fun, with plenty left for all the multitude of other things we think we want or need.
One of my favorite quotes is: "Life is like a coin. You can spend it any way you wish, but you can spend it only once". – Author Unknown
Enjoy Your Life - Spend it Well
The Bible says there are great rewards for those who look after the poor...
Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who finds great delight in his commands. His children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man. Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice. Surely he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever. He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes. He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor, his righteousness endures forever; his horn will be lifted high in honor. - Psalm 112
Just imagine what a bunch of Christians could do for the social welfare of the world community, if they got busy using their gifts and skills to rake in some of the world's wealth. Why should it all be wasted on greed and selfishness. Let's change this world for good - starting today!
